CHRIS VICKERS
Weekend Meteorologist
I consider myself lucky that I am able to forecast weather in such a dynamic place like North Dakota. I take on this challenge with excitement and a passion to continually redefine and enhance my forecasting skills, striving for the best possible accuracy in weather forecasting. As a meteorologist, weather is not just a career choice; it is a hobby and a passion. From the amazing power and beauty of a thunderstorm to the unrelenting wrath of a winter blizzard, I can find intriguing and exciting aspects that always keeps me asking, "what came together to cause this?" Which is when I dig in and get to work analyzing the situation. I strive to determine how the weather is going to affect you!
I grew up in Ohio, just east of Cleveland in Concord. At a young age I was exposed to dynamic weather that captured my imagination and curiosity. From summer storms to intense lake-effect snow, I knew a career in meteorology was right for me. I attended Ohio University, prepared and excited to study meteorology. I strived for an active role within the program and over my four years I became a Senior Forecast Supervisor at Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis, a member of the American Meteorological Society, an Air Quality forecaster for the OU Air Quality Center, and founder and President of the Ohio University Meteorology Club. I graduated with my degree in meteorology and a minor in physics in June of 2006 and have opened a new chapter with my start here at KFYR-TV in Bismarck.
When the weather is not keeping me busy, I enjoy golfing. I look forward to exploring many of the wonderful courses that North Dakota has to offer. In addition, I enjoy hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, traveling, lifting weights, and reading on those rainy days. I am also a very loyal Cleveland sports fan, continuing to passionately root for the Browns, Indians and Cavs, still wondering which will bring a championship to Cleveland first. |
