Minot Landfill Sees More Traffic | Video

Jenny Castro | 4/9/2012

The Minot landfill continues to see a steady inflow of garbage. Although thousands of tons have come in from flood cleanup, more is still to come and the increasing population is an important factor as well.

The landfill is currently looking into expanding south. For now, the landfill is far from full and Minot’s Sanitation Department says that in the near future they aren`t worried. However, the traffic to the landfill is increasing and that can be troublesome for loads coming through.

“We definitely have a high volume of traffic through the scale. Getting in and getting out can be problems sometimes during the day. There are times where there is a half hour or 45 minute wait just trying to get in the landfill,” says John Reynolds, Minot Sanitation Superintendent.

In 2010, the landfill took in about 60,000 tons of household garbage and in 2011 that number increased by over 10,000 tons to 70,900 tons.
