More Smoke-Free Minot Bars | Video

Jenny Castro | 4/18/2012

More bars are choosing to go smoke-free in Minot. One example is the Lamplighter Lounge. The Lamplighter re-opened three weeks ago and it is now smoke-free.

Since the bar had to remodel the entire space from flood damage, the owners believe the decision to go smoke-free was a sensible move. Although this bar had been known in Minot as a smoking bar, the overall customer response is positive.

"A lot of people just go automatically go outside and have a cigarette. So it`s pretty easy, it`s been happening the whole time, so it`s kind of nice. People are saying it doesn`t smell. They don`t go home and have to change right away, take a shower before they go to bed because they smell like smoke,” said bartender Kurt Schmidt.

Half of the bars in Minot are smoke-free.
