Minot Police Academy Graduation | Video

Sixty-two graduates are now able to serve the law enforcement needs of western North Dakota now that they have completed the first ever Peace Officer Program at Minot State University. Graduation ceremonies were held Thursday morning at MSU.

The 14 week program gives students the opportunity to enter law enforcement as certified police officers. Some have already found employment opportunities for Minot, Burlington, Surrey and Ward County, as well as other agencies.

The academy was announced back in September when Lake Region State College partnered with Minot State to recruit police officers for Minot and the surrounding areas.

"You get a chance to do a job where you care about people and I know you guys are getting into this career because you care about doing what’s right and you`ll get to experience the satisfaction of helping others. I want to wish you the very best. I wish you well and stay safe," said Minot Police Chief Jason Olson, one of the speakers at Thursday’s ceremony.

Everyone who signed up for the program graduated.
