Shane Brunelle has entered a number of pieces in the UTTC art show over the past couple years and says for him, it`s an opportunity to show how his work has evolved.
"I just like to see what I can do, and I always like to challenge myself, push myself, get what I want done in each piece."
Instructors say this is a great show for anyone to see because you don`t have to guess or pretend to know what the artwork is about.
"Every piece has arts and statements on them so you can read the artist statement and you can tell what the artist was feeling when they did what they did and what they did it on," said graphic art instructor Colleen Bredahl.
If you want to know even more about a piece you can talk to the actual person who created it. They`re excited about their work and want the exposure.
"The more people you can meet, the more they like your work and then they start collecting it, and by word of mouth and, of course, recordings get out there and you get to know a little more every time," Brunelle said.
This is the school`s 14th annual art show, but students say it`s more than just a way to display and sell their work. It`s a place they can meet and give encouragement to other aspiring artists.
"Keep working at it and don`t give up. It`s a great way to express yourself and it`s tough because you don`t just go out there and make a million bucks with your first drawing, but hopefully one of these days," Brunelle said.
You never know. One of these days one of them could become famous and the rest of us can say, "I knew him when."
The show is at Impact Gallery at the corner of 4th and Broadway and runs from 9:00 to 5:00 tomorrow.
