College Employees Serve United Way | Video

Employees at United Way haven`t had much time to put the finishing touches on their new home near downtown Bismarck. But thanks to some help from Rasmussen College employees, it`s getting spruced up a bit.

"We were so excited when Rasmussen said that they had some time to donate to us. We don`t have the time to really spend on our office or on our yard," said United Way Executive Director Jena Gullo.

United Way moved to its current location last October. On Friday afternoon, about a dozen Rasmussen employees from the Bismarck campus took a few hours out of their day to do some yard work and paint the inside of the United Way office.

They`re joining about 1,500 Rasmussen employees who are volunteering across the country to mark the school`s 4th annual community service day.

"United Way is involved in so many different organizations in communities that they are always organizing and doing things for other people, so it`s really nice to be able to volunteer and actually help out the United Way," said Rasmussen College Campus Director Mary Swingle.

"It gives you that personal feeling of accomplishment and that you`re doing something nice for others," says Chris Vizenor, a student financial aid advisor at Rasmussen College. "Maybe someone sees you helping out and then they get that feeling that, `Hey, if these guys are doing it, maybe I can find a way to help out, too.`"

Because serving and inspiring others to do the same is what this day of service is all about.

United Way is holding its annual Day of Caring on August 15. More than 450 volunteers are needed that day.
