Family Hot Sauce | Video

The state fair awarded the top exhibitors Friday and one of these vendors is no stranger to fair awards.

Forty years ago Joe Singh imported hot sauces from the Caribbean, and today his family runs the business Caribbean Heat which has captured the second place for indoor vendors at the fair.

"We sell quite a bit and people look forward to seeing us and we`re awfully busy doing it this way,” says Singh.

Singh`s best product is Dr. Joe`s Medicine Hot Sauce, made from ghost peppers which Singh and his family grow themselves.

Now the family business has branded out to include desserts their no-bake cheesecake has 26 different flavors. Joe`s son, Chris has his own booth at the fair with this dessert line and being in this business is something he`s well prepped for.

"I took him wherever I go so he can learn the trade of what I`m doing so we handed down from generation to generation,” says Singh.

While Chris`s Dad runs the show on the road, he`s not the one in charge.

"Mom`s role is the boss so she tells us what to do but our role is to just keep the business going, my sisters, they do the same. We`re proud of our dad for starting it and we just want to keep it going for many years to come,” says Joe’s son Kris.

The Singh line of salsa is a popular product that always draws a lot of attention. He`s thrilled about introducing his new salsa flavors and talking about his business to anyone.

"One of the most enjoyable things is meeting the people, showing my goods, showing my products, and chatting. They always come back and say how nice they like it and then they need some more to last them another year,” says Singh.

The Caribbean Heat line is only sold in person and they like it that way so they can keep talking and more importantly keep it fresh.

The Singh family lives in Minnesota where they also sell their product at the farmers market. Their Caribbean Heat is at the Commercial II building on the north end of the fair.
