County engineer Marcus Hall says flooding last summer has compromised the integrity of the road. He says workers will need to repair the subsurface to make the road more stable.
"One of the biggest problems we had in this particular segment of road is the water we had last year and the water saturating the subsurface. Once the water left, we experienced the damage we currently have out there."
The work is expected to cost just under half a million dollars.
The county plans to reopen River Road in about a month.
