The 32 unit building, located right across the street from the west side of the university, has been in the works for a while. One year ago, after the flood, the Minot State Development Foundation recognized right away that the students would need more affordable housing options.
The building has 16 four-bedroom apartments and 16 two-bedroom apartments the students on the top of the list are already moving in for the fall.
"They immediately went to work on this property that they owned and they did demolition on this property and then they hired the local contractor and they went to work immediately. And the end result is that we have a 32 unit apartment complex here. It`s got 96 bedrooms in it, it`s primarily all students that live here, good for our students and also for our Minot State community that they`ve priced these very affordable for our students and folks that live here, said Minot State Development Foundation Executive Director Marv Semrau.
We are very lucky getting in here in the first place, but it`s very nice and for how quickly they got it up, I`m very impressed, said MSU senior Sacarra Molina.
It`s great, anywhere else in town where are you`re going to get a place for $1,500 for four bedrooms? Ain`t going to happen, said sophomore Evan Teglum.
The Minot State Development Foundation provides funds to support students, faculty, and staff through other programs and scholarships. The foundation owns the building and the apartments are managed through IMM in Minot.
The foundation has other efforts in place right now for more affordable housing for students.
