Bank Phone Scam | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 12/5/2012

If you`ve been receiving phone calls claiming to be from Gate City Bank or any other recorded messages that say there is suspicious activity linked to a credit card, you may not be alone.

The Attorney General`s Consumer Protection Division is alerting North Dakotans that the scam is not linked to Gate City Bank but is coming from a calling list.

Vice President of Gate City Bank, Peggy Johnson, says they have received 400 to 500 calls regarding these scams. They assured their customers that once they let the bank know that they received a scam call, they will shut down their account and expedite new cards at the bank`s expense.

"Gate City would not call them with a situation like this. So we just want to make sure that people are aware of that and we also have been made aware by the Attorney General`s office that they could continue to call with a scam like this. They might even change the name of the bank, so we could still see these calls keeping coming in," Johnson said.

The Attorney General`s office notified Gate City that the scams are also happening in Fargo.
