Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It: Gyro Bowl | Video

Amy Fox | 12/14/2012

Getting kids to eat can sometimes be a challenge. And, you can`t forget all the messes you have to clean up after snack time. But, before you reach for another paper towel to clean up another spill, there may be a solution for you.

In this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out the Gyro Bowl. They advertise the Gyro Bowl as a kid-proof, spill-proof bowl. While the kids are eating, they can even use the Gyro Bowl as a toy. The middle actually rotates 360 degrees. And, when you`re done, it`s easy to clean-up. All you have to do is throw it into the dishwasher.

But, does this product actually work? Well, "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."

For Coreen Burbee, mother of three, snacks somehow always end up on the floor.
"We have a big mess at our house, don`t we? Do you make messes? Yes, we make lots of messes?”

So, we decided to put Gyro Bowl to the test.

"It’s kind of intriguing,” said Burbee. "Something different to eat out of."

We pulled the bowl out of the package, and filled it with crackers.

"It’s a little bit smaller maybe than a normal bowl, but totally good enough for a toddler."

As we filled up the bowl, Jonah was excited to get his hands on the Gyro Bowl.
Once the bowl was filled, Jonah tipped and turned the bowl, but nothing fell out.

"For kids that are just prone to messes, it might be helpful for them," said Burbee.

Next, we filled the Gyro Bowl with bananas. We once again repeated the same steps and had the same results.

"Well, I think it would be perfect for probably 1-3 year olds."

Once Jonah was full, it was time to pack up.

"It`s a little bit big to maybe take with you in your diaper bag."

While Jonah pooped out on us, there was still one more test we wanted to try out. So, we filled up the Gyro Bowl with pudding and rotated the bowl once again.

"It eliminates the mess and it`s kind of fun."

After snack time was over, the Gyro Bowl was one sticky mess. I ran it through the dishwasher like they advertise on TV, and it looks like brand new.

Surprisingly, none of the food spilled out of the bowl.

So, this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
