Tech Talk: Best of 2012 | Video

Jerame Novak | 1/2/2013

The best part of my job is going out and seeing how people are using technology in their lives and occasionally have a little fun while doing it. So, in no particular order, here are my top five Tech Talks of 2012.

Do you talk in your sleep? The Sleep Talk app records any noises you make while you`re sleeping. I learned that I make some sort of noise.

I also made a trip to Bowman to see a one of a kind drive thru. The Subway restaurant in Bowman is the first Subway in the state that allows you to order your meal without talking to an employee. They have a touch-screen system that even lets you store your orders if you are a frequent customer.

While you probably shouldn`t be on your phone during church, there are some apps for your spiritual life. While Catholic traditions go way back, there are apps that can help the faithful with things like saying the rosary.

Last summer, I travelled to South Dakota to see how GPS is used to track prairie dogs. A group of researchers are using the technology to map and track prairie dog towns east of McLaughlin, South Dakota. They are using the data to see how prairie dogs and cattle live together.

And finally, you can watch or catch up with KFYR-TV on your smartphone or tablet by downloading the Syncbak app. With Syncbak, you can watch our newscasts live or on demand on your device in high definition.
