Jamestown National Guard Unit Receives Alert for Possible Mobilization

| 1/8/2013

A Jamestown-based North Dakota Army National Guard unit may be going to Afghanistan next year. The 817th Engineer Company has received an alert notification for possible mobilization. If mobilized, about 100 soldiers would serve in Afghanistan in the spring of 2014.

"The 817th Engineer Company offers extensive depth and experience that will make them successful during their mission," said Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general. "The other key component to their success is the continued support of their families, friends and employers during another mission away from home."

The unit specializes in combat engineering tasks. Over half of the soldiers have previously deployed.
