DUI Legislation | Video

Jessica Roose | 1/16/2013

Several organizations were at the capitol for Law Day to support various pieces of legislation will be discussed during the 63rd legislative session. Those who want to see stronger DUI laws in the state brought a powerful visual, the car that carried a Fargo family who was killed last July after being struck by a drunk driver.

Others in support of the legislation include Sandy Hernandez and Juan Ruiz. Their children, aged 9 and 5, were killed last year while camping near Lake Metigoshe, after a drunk driver ran over the tent they were sleeping in.

"Something has to be done. Something should have been done a long time ago. You know but if this is what it`s going to take then I`m all for it. I mean it`s not the most idealistic situation for us of course but again, if that`s what it`s going to take," Ruiz said.

A bill to strengthen DUI laws in the state is being sponsored by Representative Kim Koppelman.
