Gun Rally | Video

Alex Hagan | 1/19/2013

Dangerously cold wind chills couldn`t keep pro-gun advocates from rallying against President Obama`s gun control executive orders. Second amendment supporters held a rally at the state capitol.

Nearly 100 people braved the severe cold to come out in opposition to President Obama`s call for restrictions on semi-automatic weapons and high capacity magazines. Today`s rally was about protecting American`s second amendment rights.

"It`s about protection of our families and our country," said Marty Beard from Bismarck.

Shanna Cotton came out with her two kids to show her support. "I own a .45 that I protect my family, I`ve had a lot of break-ins into my house."

Andre Paleyer organized the rally. He noticed nobody was really standing up gun rights in North Dakota which prompted his decision to hold this rally. "I would personally like to see a gun in every American citizen`s hand who can own a gun."

One Bismarck resident showed up in opposition to the rally. Judith Hammer stood alone in her support for banning semi-automatic weapons. "What I really don`t understand, why citizens should have assault weapons. Is that our right? That`s nonsense, it`s insanity," she said.

Many pro-gun supporters hold the position that guns don`t harm people, people do.

"The majority of Americans secure the right to protect themselves to go hunting to do sports gunmanship," said Cotton.

"We need to all stand together to protect our families and our country," said Beard.

Today`s rally allowed pro-gun supporters to voice their opinions on an issue that`s becoming increasingly vocal on both sides.

The Burleigh County Friends of NRA held a banquet tonight in support of a citizens second amendment rights.
