Nebraska Governor Approves Pipeline | Video

NBC News | 1/22/2013

Plans for the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline will proceed with a designated new route through Nebraska. Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman approved the revised route for the Canada to Texas pipeline. The new route will avoid the state`s environmentally sensitive Sandhills region but cut through an area containing an aquifer.

The project has faced opposition from landowners and environmental groups who say the pipeline would contaminate groundwater. Transcanada, the company handling the project, and some workers` unions say laying the pipeline is safe and will create thousands of jobs.

Senator Hoeven said he is now making preparations to reintroduce his legislation enabling Congress to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline if the President doesn`t.
