You could say Mandan`s new alternative high school is getting an "A." The Brave Center Academy just finished its first semester, has had a graduate, has four students on track to graduate and the average grade for students is 86 percent. Assistant Principal Perry Just says there`s room for growth, but for now, the district is only allowing 20 students.

"We felt it was important for kids to realize this was a privilege to attend the Brave Center Academy, and so we set up an application process. Kids have to apply to come to this school and then what occurs from there is a committee meets to decide whether a kid can go or not and once they`re able to go they are required to attend 5:30 - 8:30 Monday through Thursday."

Last year it cost Mandan schools $110,000 to send 12 students to South Central. Holding alternative classes at the Brave Center costs about $50,000.
