Julie Leonardi | 1/23/2013

Jury selection begins Wednesday in the trial of Omar Kalmio. He`s charged with killing four people on January 28, 2011. Kalmio is accused of killing his girlfriend, Sabrina Zephier, 19, her mother, Jolene Zephier, 38, her brother, Dillon Zephier, 13, and her mother`s boyfriend, Jeremy Longie, 22.

Kalmio is pleading not guilty to the felony charges. Potential jurors were questioned throughout the day by the defense attorneys and the prosecutors. Kalmio sat in court today in silence as his attorneys, Thomas Glass and Kerry Rosenquist, spoke to possible jurors, asking the group if they use social media like Twitter or Facebook and if they are familiar with the case.

Prosecutor Kelly Dillon also questioned the pool of potential jurors. “This process that we`re going through right here is designed for us to determine whether you are, can be a fair and impartial juror for this particular case.”

Jury selection will continue for the rest of this week. A group of 104 people will be narrowed down to 40 to 45 people. Opening statements in the trial are set to begin this Monday.
