Minot Fire Department Training | Video

By: Amy Fox | 1/29/2013

After having the help wanted sign out for several months, the Minot Fire Department has filled three of its job openings and added two more. Today, they`re taking their new firemen from the classroom to the field.

During the three week training program, the new firemen are given the skills and tools they need to respond to the scene of a fire.

This includes search and rescue, firefighting nozzles, hose rules, and forcible entry.

And, with five new firemen on board, Captain Taylor says the fire department is prepared for the growing population.

"Man power is the deal in firefighting. And, to do our job effectively, we need man power and equipment. You can do a lot with equipment, but you can`t do it without the man power. And, they`re going to greatly add to our man power capabilities,” said Minot Fire Department Captain Michael Taylor.

For many of the new hires, this is their first experience dealing with the smoke, flames, and extreme temperatures.
