Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It: Yoshi Blue | Video

Amy Fox | 2/1/2013

We’ve all had those times in the kitchen when we forget to grease the skillet before we start cooking. Before you throw away another pancake or omelet, there may be an easier way to cook your skillet favorites.

In this week’s "Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Yoshi Blue non-stick skillet.

When you go to cook certain foods, like eggs and pancakes, you can’t forget to pull out a can of cooking spray to grease the skillet. But, then you don’t know if you’ve used too much or not enough spray. Well, the Yoshi Blue may work. It’s a non-stick skillet made out of, yes, diamonds. You can even throw it in the dishwasher. What could be easier, right?

But, does it actually work? Well, “Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."

Sarahbeth Ackerman and I are by no means professional chefs, but we do enjoy spending time in the kitchen. With crazy schedules, making breakfast can sometimes be another chore.

"With my daily routine, I`m pretty busy a lot in the morning. So, instead of grabbing the butter or the cooking grease or anything, I could just put the pan down and start my breakfast before I go to work," said Ackerman.

We wanted to try out Yoshi Blue non-stick skillet for ourselves. While we heated up the burner, we cracked open a few eggs and whisked them. Then, it was time to pour them into the Yoshi Blue.

Ackerman said, "Right now, it seems that it’s just kind of lying on top here. I don’t know if it’s not hot enough yet."

As we began to cook the eggs, some of it began to stick to the pan.

"It kind of seems that the eggs are sticking all over the pan like a normal pan would actually do. So, I mean, it seems like a fine pan as far as it’s deep dish and you can put stuff in it, but seems like it’s sticking," explains Ackerman.

Once the eggs were cooked, then it was time to flip the eggs in the Yoshi Blue skillet like they advertise on TV. While it was pretty easy, there was still some debris left in the skillet.

Finally, it was time to clean up our mess with a paper towel.

Ackerman said, "Well, it was easy clean up. But, obviously, I still have to wash it."

So, is Yoshi Blue our new best friend in the kitchen?

"I honestly think this is like any other pan that you could probably purchase, probably a lot cheaper," said Ackerman.

We just got done cleaning up the Youshi Blue skillet. While it was easy to use and clean up, some of the eggs still stuck to the skillet.

You’re probably going to want to keep using a regular skillet. This week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs down.
