Locals React To Kalmio Verdict | Video

Julie Leonardi | 2/5/2013

A horrendous crime and a swift verdict. Omar Kalmio, was found guilty yesterday of murdering four people in Minot back in 2011.

One week of testimonies, and only three hours of jury deliberations. That`s all it took to convict Omar Kalmio for the murders of his ex-girlfriend Sabrina Zephier, her mother Jolene Zephier, her brother Dillon Zephier and Jeremy Longie.

Such a serious crime with so many victims is unusual for a small town like Minot. Local police officers assigned to the case couldn`t believe such a thing could happen here.

Sergeant Dave Goodman, Lead Detective for the case, said, “Speaking for myself and the people in our office, we were shocked. We`re not used to having such a serious crime happen in our community.”

Many officers from the Minot Police Department were involved with the case. After following several leads, Kalmio was their main suspect, so they were pleased with the final verdict.

“We`re relieved that the case is over, we`re very happy with the verdict that the jury came up with,” said Goodman.

Local residents who followed the case said they were un-easy about the situation.

Police officials say the Kalmio case used up an extreme amount of man power, and now they`re relieved to go back to more routine duties.

The Zephier and Longie family are relieved to have closure and justice being served.
