Wrestlers Help Others in Need | Video

Bismarck High wrestlers put in hours and hours of training, month after month, but they`ve also found time to help others in need.

Wrestlers sometimes cut back on food for days in order to make weight before a match or tournament.

"Your stomach`s always rumbling, you can`t really concentrate, you`re trying to focus, but you`re hungry and miserable and just want to sleep," said BHS senior Tate Hoffman.

They get to eat once they`ve weighed in, but more than 400 students in Bismarck may not get that chance over an entire weekend.

"We can choose to go hungry and get kind of crabby and stuff, but they don`t really choose if they want to, and then they have to and then they have to go to school and it`s tough," Hoffman said.

The Demon wrestlers just raised $600 to help feed students who otherwise would go hungry. It`s a project BHS, Century and South Central are doing together.

"We kind of felt like we wanted to stay together for this project, so we compete against grades levels. So sophomores, juniors, seniors versus competing against schools, so we can kind of eliminate that rivalry for once," said senior Courtney Sibla.

The three schools are also collecting jars of peanut butter and hope to raise $8,000 in two weeks.

On Thursday, any funds donated to the Bismarck Public Schools foundation will be matched, up to $4,000 to help support the Students in the Transition program. It provides food on the weekends and other services for students who are homeless. For more information, visit www.impactgiveback.org
