Monthly Water Bill Increase | Video

Rene Thibault | 2/13/2013

Minot residents can expect a two dollar increase on their monthly water bills to help pay off a new wireless meter system for the city. It`s been a multi-year plan to provide a more efficient water-meter reading system. Initially, each Minot resident would have to pay up-front for the installation and maintenance of the new units.

Because so many were damaged during the flood, this past month the City Council decided not to put another financial burden on Minot residents.

“A lot of the homes that are getting replaced now are the flood homes. The meters have to be replaced and all the wiring and everything, and it was just an additional cost for the residents to bear, so we felt a two dollar a month fee would be easier to take than the $140 up front,” said Dan Jonasson, the Minot Public Works Director.

The City of Minot will be sending out notices to utility customers about the new change. People can expect to see the increase in their next billing statement.
